'Grats to [dth], the true winners of the first Snowball ATS.
Looks like I'm due for making a Sardelac thread on balancing the arena, so I'll probably cook that up tomorrow.
That aside, I'm not crazy about the rewards. Tournaments span over an hour, and the most Gamer points you'll get is 60. Add in finals for another 30. 90 points over 2-3 hours is atrocious for gains in that title, and there's no end-tourney reward of points either. I don't feel this will hold the attention of nor benefit people focused solely on their Gamer track. Can't say anything about the normal rewards.
There's a bug concerning tie-breakers that I've posted in the Game Bugs subforum. Other than that, I hope that ANet polishes off the bugs of this game format for next year (lolwut) so that more players can take part.

Interesting Shayne Hawke.
I'm not at all surprised though. More evidence that this was only thrown in the game at the last second.
Oh, and @ Sky High... yes, because we all know it takes a super high level of coordination to succeed in a holiday themed minigame. This is about as complex as "Ursan Arena PvP."

No-one was remotely in the league of [dth] and [vR]. "Scrubby" #800ish guild mopped the floor with [pH] and their star rawr player in the semis, and held a perfect tie with [vR] despite being grenth.
Anyway players are given Tournament Reward points which is good enough... even if your guild isn't <1000. Bring on the AFK farmers.

They went so far they even added Top8 playoffs, anyone knows what's that for? Are there serious big RPs given out or it's the same as everyday GvG ATs ?

TBH it's a really nice idea, And i think its more on just being fun and differant them some reward system.
Bit dissapointing about the whole 14 days guild think as I think its safe to say that alot come back during the holiday events, and it would be handy to play with firends yo havn't seen in a while. But it was nice that it was in at all.
Redux maybe?

I would have assumed that a snowball AT would run the same as a monthly AT, with the same guild rules and regulations, rather than taking a wild leap of fancy that maybe Anet changed it "just this once".

I'd rofl if a guild pulled off a r-spike-esque thing with one para using the chant to make snowballs near-undodgeable. 3, 2, 1, snowballs to the face.

No point in making that. You have to run present. Since the ress time is 0 sec, there is no point in killing.

You can apologize as much as you want, it still won't change the fact some people won't be able to enjoy a snowball battle with actual teamplay. But oh well, could've expected it tbh.

Unless you are one of those rare people who never makes a mistake(they don't exist), why can't you just accept that there was an oversight that couldn't be corrected in an short period of time. They apologized and that should be enough.

So im in vR, and last nights snowball at, we got dominated in the finals, by that really good r8 gamer people, but we get an auto win thanks to Dwayna. Sorry about that dth, so we got 350 rps just for being Dwayna, pretty dumb.

Ya, I hate that auto win for Grenth, if Dwayna side didn’t get 10 points. It was a good game anyways, even though ya had Avalanche.
BTW did they fix that?

Seems so, autowin "didnt work" in the same way. More like: who got last present in case of tie.

That's 18 days.

But does the snowball ATS last for 18 days too?

At the time, if Dwayna didn’t get 10 points before the time runs out, Grenth won. We lost our first match being Dwayna with 7 to 3.
Well I’m sure its fix now as I watch the observer.

If ANet just extends the ATS another 2 weeks then all this complaining would stop.

They should better fix the balance between Dwayna and Grenth... The problem was obvious in 2005, this is the 4th Wintersday and nothing has been done. It's now much more ridiculous than before - they made it a competetive tournament format with serious rewards. It's simply 8 skills vs 7 skills, 64 vs 56. It's a massive difference.

Snowball ATS Redux, lulz.
Even to do that now would mean that people would have to rush in finding a guild. No, if they were going to repeat this to make up for their mistake, they ought to do it later in January or February. Also, to not repeat their fault, make sure that they give everyone more than two weeks notice that the tournament would be taking place.
